The SPICE Program has the unique role in the community sector in the ACT of connecting students in years 8 to 10, and at risk of disengaging from their education, with volunteer business mentors who provide five full days of work experience across a five week period.
SPICE operates as an active ‘link’ or ‘bridge’ between the student and the employer. Prospective student participants are referred to the program by schools, most commonly by careers teachers. SPICE takes a team approach to securing and maintaining placements for students – working with teachers, students’ families, local businesses and community agencies and, of course, the students themselves.
SPICE is one of Volunteering ACT’s specialist programs and is funded by the ACT Education and Training Directorate.
