Buddy

About the Connections Program

This program is funded by the ACT Health Directorate and managed by Volunteering ACT.
The Connections Program links people (Participants) over 18 years of age dealing with mild to moderate levels of mental health/mental illness, issues to a Volunteer for the purpose of companionship, mentoring and support through one-to-one and/or small group environments. Connections does not cater for high-end or severe mental health disorders.

Through role modelling healthy, supportive relationships and shared common interests, people can improve their confidence.  Connections is designed to gently strengthen Participants to reach their personal goals and reconnect with the mainstream community.  In most circumstances, Volunteers are matched with a Participant of the same gender and similar age and interests.

The Connections Program is not just about growth for the Participants but also growth for Volunteers.

Your Commitment

In order to establish a healthy, stable relationship between the Volunteer and the Participant we ask that you commit to a minimum of 12 months with the program.

The hours are flexible and depends on arrangements made between you and your Participant although we hope that you will meet at least once per week for an hour or more.
