Become a Buddy or Mentor

“Your Opportunity to Help!”

If you are over 18 years of age, have a basic understanding of the challenges faced by people with mental health issues, and can spare 1½ hours a week then we would like to hear from you!

Buddy Volunteer

The focus is in building trust and companionship for a person dealing with social isolation, language and cultural barriers, stigma and/or discrimination resulting from mental health issues. Basic goals are agreed upon to ensure progress.

Mentoring Volunteer

This relationship has a more deliberate focus on the personal development of the participant. Building self-confidence, developing healthy relationships, goal setting, basic finances, time-management and problem solving skills are some of the areas that may be discussed.

Benefits to you as a Volunteer:

  • Free ongoing training, personal development and support
  • The opportunity to be a part of a great team
  • Help participants others grow in confidence
  • The opportunity to build a better community

Please note that the Connections Program is not a peer support program. All volunteers are carefully screened to ensure that they have the appropriate skills and personal attributes necessary to provide support and healthy role-modelling.
