2010 ABS Social Survey Results

11-Nov-2011

The Australian Bureau of Statistics recently released the 2010 results for the General Social Survey giving NFP organisations a good overview of the direction of volunteering in Australia. The future is positive with volunteer numbers increasing from 34% of the population to 38% from 2009 – 2010.

Interestingly, the results indicate that:

  • regional areas have the highest volunteer numbers as a proportion of the population
  • Couples with children are most likely to volunteer (48%)
  • People aged 45 – 54 are the most likely to volunteer
