Category: Community (Special Commendation)

Recipient: Ann Brown

Nominated By: Scout Association of Australia ACT Branch

Ann is the mother of four sons and a devoted grandmother of six grandchildren. She has been an active volunteer in Scouting for over 35 years, helping with Cub Scouts.

Ann’s work in scouting is multifaceted. Whether working with young people or adults, programming, assisting others, or performing on stage, Ann is cheery and encouraging to all those around her.

Initially, Ann assisted with the programming and running of Cub activities in a variety of Scout Groups for 14 years before transferring to a district position. Here, Ann started two new Cub packs and assisted in not only running the meetings but also training new leaders to take over from her.

Ann has been a valuable team member of the Branch Cub Team and the Limestone Plains District Team and is now contributing her expertise to the Scout Fellowship Team.

Thanks to Ann’s efforts hundreds of young people have benefited from the Scouting program as a direct result of her impact as a Cub Scout Leader or indirectly as an attendee themselves at one of our major events.

Ann’s influence as a volunteer goes even further. As a team leader or team member Ann brings warmth and encouragement to everyone that comes in contact with her.

In 1994, Ann joined the YMCA Auxiliary and for many years she has managed the shop known as Y’s Buys at Jamison. She is very dedicated and works in the shop an average of 4 days a week in her role as Vice President of the YMCA Auxiliary of Canberra. Ann also assists at YMCA garage sales, working bees, training, planning committees and gives a lot of support to other auxiliary members. She is always willing to go the extra mile and takes the washing and mending home from the shop for the auxiliary.
