Category Award - Young Person (under 25 years)

Andrew White - Recipient of the Young Person (under 25 years) Category Award

Nominated by Scouts Australia ACT Branch

As a current year 11 student at Canberra College, 16 year old Andrew White dedicates his spare time to volunteering. He has been able to organise his time between school work, home life, volunteering commitments and his work at the local primary school.

At the age of 11, as a primary school student, Andrew began to organise discos for the youth members of Scouts ACT, raising funds to donate to Camp Quality. Andrew also takes part in coordinating and running social events for the youth members of Scouts ACT, ranging from 8-18 year olds. He also volunteered to be part of the Ceremonies Team in the ACT Cuboree in 2005. This consisted of a camp for 1500 8-11 year olds where he, along with fellow members, entertained the children.

Andrew has taken part in the organisation of various large scale activities. In 2005 for example, he assisted in the preparation of the NSW Branch Jamborette held in Canberra for hundreds of Scout members. He was also an activity base organiser during the Brace Scout "Cotter Shield". This task involved running an activity for over 250 members aged between 14 to 18 years old. In his final year at Alfred Deakin High School last year, Andrew provided his technical skills in running lights for school productions and during fundraising events.

Despite being a student, Andrew has devoted his spare time and effort to helping others. Andrew's willingness, dedication and his contribution to volunteering within the community and his school continues to leave a positive impact.
