Jennie Widdowson - Recipient of the Environment Category Award

Jennie Widdowson has volunteered for the Southern ACT Catchment Group since its formation in 2002. Jennie has worked on various projects and in various positions throughout the past four years. She has put a great deal of effort and time into her work, regardless of the weather or the activity.
Her commitment ranges from hands-on environmental work to the operational side of the organisation. These activities include: environmental nature work such as recording and photographing plants, weeding, planting, track maintenance, bird surveys, water bug surveys, assistance with Nightstalk (nocturnal annual surveys), nursery work, vegetation mapping, seed propagation, bushfire regeneration monitoring, and shooting video footage and photos for a number of projects. Jennie has taken on operational positions within organisations, including becoming the treasurer in 2005 for the Catchment Group.
Jennie has given her ability and time to a number of groups, including Greening Australia since 2004, Friends of Tidbinbilla since 2003, Clean up Australia, and the Farrer Ridge group since its creation in 1989. She has also volunteered for Canberra Spinners and Weavers Guild, where she is currently Treasurer, Folk Dance Canberra, and the ACT Cornish Association as secretary for three years. She also participates in Clinical trials at the Canberra Hospital.
She has taken part in a number of events over the years, dedicating an average of 24 hours a month in total. These events include the Floriade Weedbuster Garden since 2004, being a group leader of the Great Australian Bushwalk last year, and lending a hand in the Clean Up Australia day for 17 years (as site supervisory since 1999). Apart from her high level of dedication, she is also an enthusiastic nature photographer. Jennie has provided her skills and talents to the community through her engaging photography.
