Jack Cook - Recipient of the Community Category Award
Nominated by the Australian Red Cross: Meals On Wheels
Jack Cook has been volunteering for The Australian Red Cross: Meals On Wheels and various Lions Club activities. His willingness to help is an inspiration as he takes on many roles, including being a driver, preparing food for events, providing public education presentations and being the master of ceremonies at the annual Magic Show.
His involvement with The Australian Red Cross: Meals On Wheels has continued for over fifteen years. He works from three to five days a week with a great deal of knowledge of the city as he finds clients and delivers their hot meals efficiently. If need be and without hesitation, Jack will deliver to parts of Canberra he is unfamiliar with. Throughout the years, he has met and delivered to the various people who receive the Red Cross Meals On Wheels services.
Apart from his extensive contribution to Meals On Wheels, Jack has been involved in various Lions Club programs. One task involves driving the elderly to the Cotter for barbeques. On a weekly basis, Jack drives a group of seniors to partake in social gatherings, using his own car. He also partakes in bimonthly sessions of the Public Education Program, with the Lions Clubs informing groups of Prostate Cancer. Jack has passed on his interest in volunteering to his grandchildren, involving them in his activities, especially the Meals On Wheels program.
Jack is an enthusiastic volunteer, contributing many hours weekly, despite the weather or the task. He is committed and willing to help when he asked to. Jack never seems to be able to say "no" as he assists both the young and the young at heart, leaving positive feelings to those who surround him.
