Harmony Day 2005
Volunteering ACT celebrated Harmony Day on May 10th 2005, in conjunction with National Volunteers Week. The event included a variety of multicultural finger foods, displays of various flags, traditional costumes and informative illustrations. The day also included a performance by Alex Murchison from Echo Tree Didgeridus, alongside two of his students, Oliver Baker Year 7 Daramalan College and Blair Dutney Year 10 St Edmund’s College, as well as the acapella choral sounds of Calculating Women, from the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

Harmony Day is a way of celebrating cultural diversity and giving the community insight into the various cultures which surround us in day to day life. It also gave Volunteering ACT the opportunity to ensure individuals and organisations are more aware of our services and how we contribute to the community as a not-for-profit organisation.

This day gave us the opportunity to network with other organisations and individuals amongst our community developing a greater understanding of the barriers which various cultures may face within our community environment.
We are grateful to everyone who contributed to making this day one of great significance. We would like to thank all those who attended and provided outstanding performances, as well as embassies and individuals who provided flags and other decorations for the event to take place. Also, we wish to show our appreciation to our own volunteers for their colossal effort put into the preparation and participation in our Harmony Day.
